Rune Pieces
Sometimes you will come across these rune pieces which will help improve a character's skills. Select the item, then use it on the character of your choice.
• Defense Rune Piece- Increases a character's defending ability. Get these by defeating Snails on Mt. Tigerwulf.
• Fortune Rune Piece- Increases a character's luck. Get these at random from the Question Mark box on the wheel of the Big Trick in Lepant's Mansion (Kouan).
• Magic Rune Piece- Increases a character's magic ability.
• Power Rune Piece- Increases a character's strength.
• Skill Rune Piece- Increases a character's skill.
• Speed Rune Piece- Increases a character's speed. Get these by defeating Elementals in the Qlon Temple Cave.
Rune Fragments
Rune fragments are used to enhance your weapons, unlike rune pieces which are used to enhance your characters. You can get rune fragments attached to your weapon by a blacksmith. Your weapon will then take on the attribute of the rune that was attached. You can attach more than one of the same rune fragment to your weapon.
• Earth Rune Piece- Enhances weapon with an earth attribute. Get these by defeating Black Wild Boars on Mt. Seifu.
• Fire Rune Piece- Enhances weapon with a fire attribute.
• Thunder Rune Piece- Enhances weapon with a thunder attribute. Get these by defeating enemies on the Dward Trail.
• Water Rune Piece- Enhances weapon with a water attribute. Get these by defeating Slimes on Mt. Tigerwulf.
• Wind Rune Piece- Enhances weapon with a wind attribute.
Rune Crystals
• Soul Eater Rune- One of the 27 True Runes. Often called the Cursed Rune, or the Rune that governs life and death. You receive this from Ted.

| 1 | Deadly Fingertips | Casts "death" on any 1 enemy. |
| 2 | Black Shadow | Inflicts 300 damage points on all enemies. |
| 3 | Hell | Casts all enemies into a blackhole. |
| 4 | Judgement | Inflicts 1,500 damage points on 1 enemy. |
• Rune Of The Gate- One of the 27 True Runes. Said to have the power to link worlds. It is actually two runes, the "Front Rune" and the "Back Rune", also called the "Entrance Rune" and the "Exit Rune", with one half being owned by Leknaat and the other by her sister Windy.
• Dragon Rune- One of the 27 True Runes. This runes power allows dragons to exist in this world. Currently in the possesion of the Dragon Knight Joshua.
• Fire Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to use fire spells, which are mostly attacking spells. You can receive this from Leknaat, or purchase it at the Kirov Item Shop.

• Rage Rune- A step up from the Fire Rune. Can be found in a chest in Neclord's Castle. Alen comes with it.

• Earth Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to use earth spells. You can get this by fighting enemies around Antei, or you can purchase it at the Rikon Item Shop. Eileen & Lotte come with it.

• Mother Earth Rune- A step up from the Earth Rune. Can be found in a chest in Moravia Castle. Hellion comes with it.

• Water Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to use water spells, which are mostly curing spells. This can be purchased at Item Shop's in Sarady and Seika.

| 2 | Fog of Deception | Decreases enemy's attack level 20%. |
| 3 | Rain of Kindness | Heals 300 damage points of your entire group. |

• Flowing Rune- A step up from the Water Rune. Can be found in a chest in Qlon Temple Cave.

• Wind Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to use wind spells, consisting of both spells of attacking and curing. Can be found in a chest in Toran Castle, by fighting enemies in Neclord's Castle, or purchased at Kobold Item Shop. Luc comes with it.

• Cyclone Rune- A step up from the Wind Rune. Found in a chest in Seek Valley. Crowley comes with it.

• Lightning Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to use lightning spells, which cause great damage to the enemy. You can receive this by defeating the Zombie Dragon, or purchase it at the Warrior's Village Item Shop. Flik and Sheena come with it.

• Thunder Rune- A step up from the Lightning Rune. Found in a chest in Shasarazade. Grenseal comes with it.

• Resurrection Rune- Gives it's owner the ability to cast resurrection spells. Contains cure and attacking spells, and can be used to heal a character unable to fight. Fukien comes with it.

| 2 | Yell | Heals 1 of your character's status. |
| 3 | Scream | Heals 300 damage points on all of your members. |

• Spark Rune- When one character is equipped with this rune, it changes the order in which your characters attack. Found in a chest in Scarletia.
• Counter Rune- Doubles your ability to deliver an effective blow. Can be found in Lepant's Mansion, or purchased in the Great Forest Item Shop. Morgan comes with it.
• Killer Rune- Doubles your effectiveness in delivering a critical blow. Found in a chest on the Dwarf Trail and in the Teien Item Shop.
• Phero Rune- Makes a characer of the opposite sex protect you from attacks. Can be won in battle against the Beast Commander in the Kaku, Seika, Garan area.
• Turtle Rune- Protects you from all status abnormalties. Can be purchased in the Dwarf Village Item Shop.
• Clone Rune- Allows your character to attack leaving a cloned image behind. Can be found on Mt. Tigerwulf.
• Prosperity Rune- Allows you to recieve double the amount of gold when slaying a monster. See Secrets for how to get this early in the game. It can also be obtained by defeating Sirens near Kalekka and Kirov.
• Double-Beat Rune- Delivers two blows at one time in hand-to-hand combat. In the possesion of Eikei.
• Fortune Rune- Doubles your experience points. See Secrets for how to get this early in the game. Can be purchased in Kirov Item Shop.
• Gale Rune- Doubles your speed. Found in a chest in Pannu Yakuta.
• Hazy Rune- Cuts a monster's successful attacking effectiveness in half. Found in a chest in Toran Castle, or purchased in Kobold Item Shop. Kai comes with it.
• Holy Rune- Allows you to run quickly over the terrain. Can be purchased in Kaku Item Shop.
• True Holy Rune- Owned by Stallion.
• Champion's Rune- Keeps weaker enemies hiding in the shadows. Can be purchased in the Warrior's Village Item Shop, or found in a chest in the Village of the Hidden Rune.
• Sunbeam Rune- Restores your hit points little by little as you walk. You can find it in the Dwarf Vault.
• Boar Rune- Owned by Pahn. Knocks the enemy senseless, causing twice the amount of damage, but making you incapacitated on your next turn. Can also be found in a chest in the Village of the Hidden Rune.
• Falcon Rune- Owned by Valeria. Rains punishing blows on the enemy.
• Hate Rune- In Ronnie Bell's possesion. Fires a screaming bullet at the enemy.
• Shrike Rune- Owned by Kasumi. Produces special attacks.
• Trick Rune- Owned by Juppo. Attacks with a puppet. Can also be used by Meg. You can get another Trick Rune by fighting Death Machines in the Dwarves' Vault.
