IcyBrian.com - FAQ

Here are some questions that I get asked a lot. I've compiled them here in hopes that people won't ask me anymore. I'll probably add more to this list in the future. If you have any questions that aren't listed here, feel free to email me.

Site-Related Questions

Q: Can I be a member of your staff?
A: I don't actually have a staff. With the exception of the forum moderators, and some help from Chris Haynie with technical issues I run into, I run this site by myself.

Q: You should add a page with strategies and information on ______ game.
A: I'm no longer making game info pages for individual games. I made pretty much all of the existing ones between 1997-1999, back before there were tons of sites out there with all the same information. Now that Game FAQs is around, there really isn't any need for me to create game info pages. You should be able to find pretty much anything you need there.

Q: When are you going to update again? Have you shut down the site?
A: I'll update when I update. This site has taken a backburner seat to the rest of my life. I'm a full-time student at Valdosta State University, and on top of that I work part-time, make films, and have a personal life. It's just gotten to the point where I can't afford to spend as much time on this as I used to, especially considering that it doesn't bring in any money for me. That's why I'm trying to get as many of the sections (particularly fan art and fanfiction) to be self-sustaining, so they can continue to grow without a lot of action on my part. But I don't have any plans to remove the site from the internet altogether, so don't worry.

Q: Can we affiliate our sites?
A: Sorry, I don't do affiliations. The only sites I link to are sites that are either run by friends of mine or ones that I really like.

Q: Can I link to your site?
A: Sure, feel free. I prefer links to point to the main page of the site (www.icybrian.com), but if you want to link to an individual page, that's fine. Just please, don't link directly to any media files (images, music, etc.)

Q: Who designed the site?
A: I designed the site based off of a template by G. Wolfgang. I also manage all of the content on the site.

Fanfic Questions

Q: Stories have to be approved for posting? What are you, some kind of fanfic nazi? You take all the fun out of writing!
A: Not quite. I'm not saying a story has to be perfect by any means in order to be posted here. But it does need to show effort on the part of the author. There are tons of sites out there that will post any and everything submitted to them; this just doesn't happen to be one of them. If you want to write in 1337$p33k, or ignore the rules of grammar, or use a script format, go right ahead. But just because you wrote it doesn't mean I'm obligated to post it. I prefer to cater to the writers who at least put a little time into their work and are looking to improve, as well as to the readers who are looking for well-written, enjoyable stories. I know that some people have a problem with this, but there are just as many people who have problems with sites that aren't selective at all. Can't please everyone.

Q: How long will it take for my fanfic to be approved for posting? And will I be notified after it's been voted on?
A: It may take anywhere from one to three months for your story to be voted on. I'm currently trying to get this amount of time down so people don't have to wait as long. And yes, you will be notified after your story has been voted on.

Q: Is it hard to get a story accepted to your site?
A: It really isn't, no. As long as you have a good comprehension of grammar and the English language, you shouldn't have to worry too much about your story being approved. And if it isn't, you'll be given advice on how you can improve your writing.

Q: Will you post original fanfics?
A: No. Because there's no such thing as an original fanfic. A fanfic is a story that is based on a game. What you're referring to is an original story, and I don't post those because the genre is far too broad and it doesn't fit in with the rest of my site.

Q: When is so-and-so going to update their fanfic?
A: I haven't the slightest clue. Ask them.

Q: What happened to Frank Verderosa?
A: I don't know. And I don't know why everyone seems to think I do (seriously, I get this question on a very regular basis.)

Miscellaneous Questions

Q: I need help beating such and such boss. I also need help getting this character and this weapon and accessing this area. Tell me how to do it.
A: Game FAQs is the way to go. They've got walkthroughs for just about any RPG you could want. In the off-chance that they don't have an answer for you there, post your question in the web forum.

Q: Can you send me a midi of this song from this game? Oh, and a picture of this character from this game?
A: If I have it, it's on the site. If it's not there, then I don't have it. Google is your friend.

Q: I want to talk to you. Can we exchange emails or talk on AIM?
A: You can try, but I'll warn you that I'm extremely bad about answering emails. So if it takes me months on end to respond, that's pretty normal for me. AIM's usually not a good way to talk to me, though, because usually when I'm on I'm pretty occupied. I'm on the Web Forum pretty often, and I'm occasionally on IRC in #icybrian on Espernet. You can also reach me on my MySpace.
