Chemist
The Chemist class is the starting point for all characters that will be trained in the ways of magic, and a worthy starting point it is. The Chemist can throw curative items to heal compatriots on the battlefield at a range of up to 4 panels away. You can buy 99 X-Potions, but if you don't have a Chemist or someone with the Item skill set with the ability to use these, they are useless during battle. For this reason, try to keep a Chemist or someone that can use items in your party for all battles.
On the battlefield, the Chemist is mainly used to heal, as he/she will be a weak attacker during the first two chapters. However, after you reach Goug Machine City and acquire Guns, the Chemist will become a formidable attacker from afar, especially after acquiring one of the three special spell guns. Keep your Chemists on the back line during battle, shooting enemies and healing comrades, and you will be on the path to success.

The Chemist's skill set of Item is among the best skills to have. It allows you to use items from your inventory during battle to heal yourself or your allies. All of the items are useful and valuable, but make sure to get some immediately. Always keep Phoenix Down handy to restore dead compatriots to life during battle. The varying degrees of potions and ethers are also very handy. If you plan to give characters the Auto Potion Reaction Ability, make sure to buy plenty of these so you don't run out during a battle! Make sure to have Holy Water on hand for most of Chapter 4, as it is the only way to combat being turned into a vampire or a zombie. Of the other item skills that you can buy, you may want to save up enough JP to buy Remedy instead of buying all the seperate items that heal specific conditions.
The item skill is a worthy secondary action skill throughout the game. You might want to consider using the Throw Item Support Skill in conjunction with this to allow the character to throw items across the battlefield and heal allies. Personally, I tried to have someone with this skill set available in my party for all battles. (P.S. - Keep in mind that you have to have an item to use in stock for these skills to be useful!)

Yes |
The Chemist boasts one of the best reaction abilities in the game in Auto Potion. After being attacked, the character will use the lowest available potion in his/her inventory to heal themself. This is invaluable during the later battles, when you may have to attack with all characters and cannot afford to take the time to heal yourselves. However, this skill can be expensive, as characters with this skill equipped will use potions whether they lose 1 HP or 100. Make sure to buy plenty of Hi-Potions and X-Potions when you use this skill.

All of the Chemist's support abilities have their strengths. Definitely buy the Maintenance ability for any characters to whom you will give rare or valuable pieces of equipment. This will prevent them from being broken by enemy Knights or by characters such as Vormav. Throw Item can be useful if you give a character the Item skill set as a secondary ability. If you don't have a Chemist or a Priest, I recommend giving someone this ability so that they can heal from afar. Equip Change allows you to change your equipment during battle. This can be a godsend if you get your weapon or armor broken or stolen, as you can re-equip mid-battle, but I prefer to just use Maintenance and avoid the whole mess.

Move-Find Item |
Allows a character to find hidden items on the battlefield |
100 |
Yes |
The Chemist's Move-Find Item skill is invaluable because it allows you to find rare hidden items on the battlefield. This skill can be rewarding, as you can find rare items or find some pieces of equipment long before you can buy them in stores. Most battlefields contain four hidden treasures. When a character with this skill equipped moves onto a "treasure square", he/ she will uncover a hidden treasure, which is either going to be an item or a piece of equipment. This is one of the few ways to obtain Elixirs, which cannot be bought, and is the only way to obtain some pieces of equipment. Equipping this skill is the only way to find the rare pieces of equipment hidden in the Deep Dungeon in Chapter 4, so make sure to give this to some (or all) characters if you decide to enter the Dungeon and treasure-hunt.
